AI receptionist and answering service for junk removal
The AI receptionist that quotes the truck load and books the pickup while you're out hauling
Send the calls you can't take to the AI receptionist Optimal Automations builds, runs and tunes through your first month for your junk removal or hauling company. It answers when you're at the dump or halfway down a staircase with a couch. What is an AI receptionist for junk removal?
An AI receptionist for junk removal is an AI voice assistant that takes your calls while you're out hauling. It sizes the load from what the caller says, quotes your truck-load price, turns away items you don't take and books the pickup. It can't see photos, so the crew confirms the exact price when they arrive.
- Every price it says comes from your own sheet. For anything past it, the AI says your team will confirm.
- It says no to paint, propane and chemicals when a caller mentions them, and sends estate and hoarding cleanouts to a free on-site estimate.
- In its opening greeting, the AI tells callers it is an AI assistant and that the call is recorded.
- It books into Google Calendar today. If you run your day in Jobber, Housecall Pro or other hauling software, you enter each job from the call summary.
You can't answer at the dump or halfway down a staircase
1-800-GOT-JUNK, a national hauling brand, says its 24/7 Sales Center answers 95% of calls within 60 seconds (1-800-GOT-JUNK). You have a phone and a truck. ServiceTitan has no hauling figure. Its June 2022 data from more than 3,000 of its customers has call booking at 24% for shops with fewer than five technicians and 59% for shops with 25 or more (ServiceTitan). It doesn't test why.
The calls that go unanswered while you work
- The dump run. You're waiting to weigh in or backing up to unload. The phone is in the cab, and the caller moves on to the next number.
- The staircase. You're on a third-floor landing with a sleeper sofa. Nobody answers a phone with a couch on their back.
- The price check. Someone with a pile at the curb calls several haulers for a number. Voicemail loses that comparison before it starts.
- The deadline. A move-out or a landlord's date is on the calendar and the garage is still full. 1-800-GOT-JUNK offers same-day or next-day pickup in most areas, in two-hour windows (1-800-GOT-JUNK). That caller wants a window, not a callback.
Example call
It prices the pile, turns down the paint and books today
A made-up call to a made-up company: a caller phoning around for a price. The AI sizes the pile from what the caller says, gives the half-truck range from the sheet, adds the mattress fee, says no to the paint and notes the stairs. Then it books the first window that fits, today.
Hear your junk removal receptionist
Made-up company, made-up caller. The free demo call has no live calendar and no texting; on your real line the AI checks your Google Calendar and asks about texts. When you build yours, it answers as your business, with your prices.
After a call like this, the owner sees it on an example junk removal dashboard. Made-up business, made-up numbers, no sign-in.
- AIThanks for calling Sample Junk Co., this is Jess, an AI assistant. This call is recorded. How can I help you today?
- CallerI'm calling around for prices. I've got a couch, a recliner and some boxes to get rid of.
- AIA couch, a recliner and some boxes is usually about half a truck, which runs $200 to $400, and the crew confirms the exact price on site. Anything else you want gone while the crew's there?
- CallerA mattress too. And a few half-empty paint cans from the garage.
- AIA mattress is $25 extra, and we can't take wet paint, but your city's hazardous-waste drop-off can. What's the pickup address and city?
- Caller412 Alder Street in Round Rock. Another company quoted me less, though. Can you do better?
- AII can't change the prices, but you only pay for the space your stuff takes, and the crew confirms the exact price on site. Are the things at the curb, in the garage or inside, and are there any stairs?
- CallerInside, and there are four stairs up to the front door.
- AIGot it, I've noted that for the crew, and stairs never cost extra with us. What day works for you?
- CallerToday, if you can.
- AII have today between noon and two, or two to four. Which works better?
- CallerTwo to four. It's Dana.
- AIThanks, Dana. What's your mobile number?
- Caller512-555-0148.
- AIThat's five one two, five five five, zero one four eight. Is it OK if we text you reminders?
- CallerYes, that's fine.
- Booked: today 2-4pm · 412 Alder St, Round Rock · inside, 4 front stairs · couch, recliner, boxes, mattress · half truck · paint declined · owner notified
- AIYou're all set, Dana: today between two and four at 412 Alder Street, and the crew calls about 30 minutes before they get there.
The intake
What it asks and listens for on a junk call
The order a good office person would take it: the pile, the price, the extras, the address and access, then the day. One question at a time, in plain words.
- The pile
- What's going, in the caller's words. A couch, a fridge, a garage, a room. It sizes the load itself: a few large items, like a mattress set, a dresser and some boxes, count as a quarter truck. It never asks a caller to guess a truck size.
- The price
- Your range for that much truck, said in one breath, with the line that the crew confirms the exact price on site, no obligation.
- Extras
- Anything else to take? It asks once, and tells the caller that adding it now usually costs less than a second trip. Mattresses, tires and fridges carry whatever fee is on your sheet.
- No-take list
- Paint, propane, chemicals or anything else you refuse. The AI doesn't ask about them. When a caller names one, it says no kindly and suggests the city's hazardous-waste drop-off.
- Where
- The pickup address, street and city, checked against your service area. Outside it, the AI says you'll check whether you can make it work.
- Access
- Where the items are, and any stairs. Right after the address, it asks whether they are at the curb, in the garage or inside, and whether there are stairs, then notes the answer for the crew.
- When
- What day works, then two two-hour windows inside your hours. It offers today only if you allow same-day pickups and there is still time left.
- Contact
- First name, then mobile number, read back in groups, then whether texts are OK. It closes with the day, the window, the street, and that the crew calls about 30 minutes before arriving. That line is standard, so tell us before launch if your crews don't call ahead.
Your rules
Your truck-load prices, your no-take list, your hours
Haulers price by the share of the truck a load fills, and each company sets its own minimum. 1-800-GOT-JUNK says its locations differ partly because local disposal and recycling fees do (1-800-GOT-JUNK). We tailor it to your price sheet and your truck schedule and tune it through your first month. Every call is in your call log to listen to, and after that you send us a change and we make it.
Truck-load prices
A single item, then a quarter, half and full truck, plus fees for mattresses, tires or fridges. Your minimum goes on the sheet as a from price. The AI states them as you wrote them, along with how you take payment after the work.
Jobs priced after a look
Whole-house, estate and hoarding cleanouts, commercial jobs, construction debris, hot tubs, sheds and pianos get a free on-site estimate. The AI never prices them by phone. You choose the list.
Stairs, carries and heavy items
Your sheet says whether stairs, long carries or taking things apart cost extra. Our made-up Sample Junk Co. charges nothing for them, so its AI can say so once.
Items you won't haul
Wet paint, chemicals, propane tanks, medical waste, whatever you refuse. The AI says no kindly when one comes up, suggests the city's hazardous-waste drop-off and doesn't book it.
Days, hours, same-day
Your working days and two-hour windows, and a yes or no on same-day pickups. On yes, it offers today only while there is time left. On no, or when you're closed, the next working day.
When to get you
A complaint, a commercial job or a caller who asks for a person goes to you. Transfers are optional: switched on, the AI rings your cell during business hours; off, or after hours, it takes a message and a callback request. For sales pitches and robocalls, it takes a short message and books nothing.
Where it stops
It quotes your sheet. It never guesses past it.
A wrong price or a promise nobody authorized is the real risk of an AI on your phone. These are the limits we build in against both.
Gas, smoke, carbon monoxide or someone hurt
- The smell of gas, or smoke, sparks or a fire, makes the AI stop the normal call, say the fixed message below and end the call.
- Carbon monoxide alarms, and reports of injury, danger or a medical emergency, each trigger a message of their own. Then the call ends: the AI books nothing, asks nothing more and offers no other safety advice.
The wording rests on public advice. Health Canada tells people to leave home at once for fresh air when a carbon monoxide alarm sounds, then call from outside. Gas utilities such as Black Hills Energy say to leave immediately, then phone 911 and the gas company once at a safe distance. The National 911 Program's site says to call 911 immediately in an emergency (911.gov). The exact words of all three messages follow. "Please hang up and call 911 right now." goes to anyone hurt or in danger, or in a medical emergency. "Get everyone outside into fresh air right now and call 911 from outside. Don't try to find the source. Stay safe." goes to a sounding carbon monoxide alarm. "That sounds unsafe. Please hang up and leave the house right now, without touching any light switches. Once you're outside and away from the building, call 911 and your gas company's emergency line. Stay safe." goes to a caller who mentions the smell of gas, or smoke, sparks or a fire. Ask the lawyer or insurer you already work with to read the words above before you turn this on.
Items it won't promise to take
- Your list is yours. The sample list reads wet paint, chemicals, solvents, oil, gasoline, propane tanks, asbestos, medical waste and ammunition.
- It says no when the caller names the item, not at the curb, and suggests the city's hazardous-waste drop-off. It doesn't ask about paint or propane first, so it can only turn away what the caller mentions.
- Paint is the gray area. 1-800-GOT-JUNK says it can't haul liquid paint, though some local franchises may accept dried latex paint. If you take dried paint only, write that on your list.
1-800-GOT-JUNK's public list also rules out propane tanks and pressurized containers, gasoline and other flammables, strong household chemicals, and medical or biological waste, and it points customers to household hazardous waste facilities and community drop-off events (1-800-GOT-JUNK). Your list is whatever you tell us.
What it never does
- Quote past your price sheet. If an item or fee isn't on it, the AI says your team will confirm. Every price it gives comes with the line that the crew confirms the exact price before starting, and that it isn't a binding quote unless you say so.
- Price from a photo. It's a voice assistant and can't open one. It sizes the load from the caller's words.
- Make licensing or insurance claims. If you give us exact words to use, it says only those. If not, it says the owner will confirm.
- Take a card number. When a caller asks about paying, the AI says your team handles payment once the work is done.
Reminder texts
A reminder the evening before, for customers who say yes to texts
- As the call wraps up: if the customer said yes to texts, a confirmation goes to them with the day, the arrival window and the street. You get a summary of the call too, by email until texting is approved and by text after.
- The evening before: a reminder from 4 p.m. that the pickup is tomorrow. A reply of C confirms it, and R asks to reschedule.
- The morning of: from 8 a.m., and only before the window starts, a short note that the crew arrives in the window and will call about 30 minutes before pulling up. That line is standard, so tell us before launch if your crews don't call ahead.
- No reply, or a question? About two hours after a reminder goes unanswered, you get an email, so there is time to call before the truck goes out for nothing. If a customer texts a question instead, one automatic reply says you'll get back to them, and you get an email too.
- An R reply: that job's reminders pause, the customer is told you'll text shortly, and an email lets you know, so the reschedule is yours to arrange. If you move the job on your calendar, the reminders follow it, but the customer isn't told.
- Booked late? A reminder is skipped when the pickup was booked or changed less than six hours before it was due, because the customer has just heard from you.
- What waits on the carriers: every text. Your business texting number needs the phone carriers' approval first, usually one to four weeks after we file. Until then, calls still get answered, bookings still land on your calendar, and each call summary reaches you by email.

Voicemail, a live answering service, an AI receptionist app or us: what you get
Voicemail is free, and the caller calls the next hauler. A live answering service still hands the callback back to you. You can also set up an AI receptionist app for junk removal yourself, and it can quote and book if you keep it tuned. We are not the cheapest, but we build yours around your truck-load prices and your no-take list, and tune it through your first month.

How it's figured: calls per week × 4.33 weeks × share not answered × share that are leads × booking rate × average job. Starting rates from the Invoca 2026 home services report: 65% of calls longer than 15 seconds to home service businesses are answered by a person (52% of all calls), 38% of answered calls are leads, and 45% of those leads convert on the call. $241 is the national average that homeowners pay for junk removal, per Angi, updated September 30, 2026 (Angi). It is a price average, not a count of booked jobs, and Angi says most people pay between $133 and $372, so type your own average. Invoca's nine trades do not include junk removal, so treat its rates as a rough guide. It assumes missed callers are just as likely to be leads, and to book, as callers who get through, so treat it as an illustration, not a forecast.
Pricing
What it costs: a little over two average pickups a month
Starter is $497 a month and Pro is $797, after a one-time $997 setup, month-to-month. Angi reports a national average of $241 for junk removal (Angi), so a month of Starter equals a little over two average pickups in revenue, before your own costs.
Starter
$497/ month
Up to 1,000 AI minutes, about 500 two-minute calls. Answering, booking, call summaries and, once your number is approved, reminder texts.
Pro
$797/ month
Up to 2,500 AI minutes and everything in Starter, plus a monthly call review with Andrei or Konnor.
One-time setup
$997
We build it from your own prices and rules, test it on a full call checklist and tune it during month one.
What you commit to: $1,494 to start on Starter ($997 setup plus the first month) or $1,794 on Pro. After that it is month-to-month: cancel before your next billing date and you owe nothing more, apart from $0.25 for each minute over your plan.
What we need from you: answers to a few questions about your fees, service area and schedule, access to your Google Calendar, call forwarding from the number you already use, and the business details the phone carriers ask for before texting starts. We build, test and tune it.
Extra minutes past your plan are $0.25 each. No per-call fees. The same done-for-you setup is built for AI receptionist for moving companies, AI receptionist for cleaning businesses and other home service trades. See the full list.
The 5-job guarantee
If your AI receptionist doesn't book at least 5 jobs in its first 30 days live, your second month is free. "Free" means we waive your plan fee for month 2. The $997 setup fee is not refunded.
- What counts as a booked job: a real customer's booking, visit or estimate that the AI put on your calendar. Test calls don't count.
- When the 30 days start: the day it starts answering your calls.
- What we need from you: your calls forward to the AI for the full 30 days, at least whenever you can't answer and after hours. Your calendar has at least 10 open job windows a week.
- Enough calls to judge it: at least 40 calls from potential customers reach the AI in those 30 days, as shown in the call log with recordings. If fewer come in, the guarantee doesn't apply. On the demo we look at your call volume and tell you if it is likely too low.
- How to claim: after your first 30 days live, email hello@automateai.agency. We go through the call log with you, and if the conditions above were met and fewer than 5 jobs were booked, month 2's plan fee is waived.
Who you'll work with
Two founders. No call center.
We're Andrei and Konnor. We build every AI receptionist ourselves and test it before it takes a customer's call. We tune it through your first month; after that you send us a change and we make it, and Pro adds a monthly call review. You talk to one of us on the demo, and after launch you reach one of us directly, not a support queue.
We are new. There are no customer reviews or case studies to show yet, and we won't invent any. What we can show: you hear your own receptionist before you pay, every number on this page links to its source, and the guarantee puts our month-2 fee on the line.

Questions
Junk removal AI receptionist FAQ
Updated
What's the difference between a junk removal answering service and an AI receptionist?
A live answering service is usually an operator who takes the caller's name and number for you to return. An AI receptionist handles the whole call: it sizes the pile, gives your price for that much truck and books a window on your calendar, all while the caller is still on the line.
Can an AI receptionist quote a job by the truck load over the phone?
Yes, from your price sheet. It sizes the pile from what the caller says, gives your range for that share of a truck and adds your fees for things like mattresses and fridges. It also tells the caller the exact price is confirmed on site, no obligation. A caller comparing haulers gets a number up front, but no discount.
Can customers send photos of their junk for a quote?
Not to the AI receptionist. It is a voice assistant and can't open a photo, even though HireAHelper's price guide says most haulers take photos by text or email. It sizes the load from what the caller says and gives your range. Anything it can't price by phone, like a shed or a whole-house cleanout, becomes a free on-site estimate.
Does an AI receptionist book same-day and next-day pickups?
Yes, if you allow it. You tell us whether same-day pickups are a yes. If they are, the AI receptionist offers today only while there is still time left, in two-hour windows inside your hours, and otherwise the next working day. It books only windows that are open on your Google Calendar.
What does an AI receptionist do with estate cleanouts and hoarding jobs?
It books a free on-site estimate instead of giving a phone price. For whole-house, estate and hoarding cleanouts, commercial jobs and construction debris, it stays gentle, takes the address and a day, and tells the caller your crew sees the whole job before anyone names a price.
What does an AI receptionist do if a caller mentions a gas smell, a fire or paint?
A gas smell, smoke or a fire gets a message to leave the house, then call 911 and the gas company's emergency line. A carbon monoxide alarm gets a message to get outside, and anyone hurt or in danger hears "Please hang up and call 911 right now." Each ends the call. Paint or propane gets a kind no only if the caller names it.

Does Optimal Automations work with Jobber, Housecall Pro or other hauling software?
Not inside them, today. Every booking lands on your Google Calendar, and the call log, recordings included, lives in a Google Sheet, so either treat the calendar as your schedule or key each job in by hand. Calls forward from your own number, so you keep it. Jobber's own Receptionist is a separate add-on that books through its Online Booking form.

What is the monthly price of an AI receptionist for hauling companies?
Starter is $497 a month, a little over two average pickups at Angi's $241 average, after a one-time $997 setup. It includes up to 1,000 AI call minutes. Pro raises the cap to 2,500 minutes for $797 and adds a monthly call review with Andrei or Konnor. It's month-to-month, nothing is billed per call, and extra minutes are $0.25.
Will my customers know they're talking to an AI receptionist?
Yes. Its opening greeting says it is an AI assistant, and it never passes as a person. Some may hang up, and we have no hang-up data yet. A Gartner survey released in July 2024 found 64% of customers would prefer AI stay out of customer service; the top worry was reaching a person. Asking for the owner gets a callback.
